Recycles Day at O1 Properties

November 1, 2018. O1 Properties will work with tenants at its business centres to make a contribution to this year's Recycle Day (November 15).

A special action to collect waste for recycling will be held at the Company's business centres from November 12 to November 16, when paper, plastic, metal, glass and Tetra Pack packaging will be collected. O1 Properties is supported in this action by the Russian company Sphera Ekologii ("Ecology Sphere"), which provides a range of services for separate waste handling systems at commercial real estate centres in Moscow.

Recycles day was inaugurated in is 1997 to highlight the importance of waste recycling. Up to 40% of waste from business centres (paper, cardboard, plastic, glass, metal, and Tetra Pakc packaging) has value and can be recycled. Recycling reduces consumption of primary natural resources, helps to combat environmental pollution, saves energy and reduces CO2 emissions.

As the largest owner of class-A office property in Moscow, O1 Properties is keen to minimize harmful impact of urbanization on the environment. The company was among the first to introduce green technologies at sites, which it owns and manages. O1 Properties has equipped its buildings with systems that reduce consumption of water, energy and heat, and batteries can be left for recycling at on site property management offices. The company has created and maintains green zones around its business centres, provides bicycle parking for tenants and encourages the use of alternative modes of transport.

Pavel Barbashev, Director of Asset Management and Leasing at O1 Properties, said: "To date one third of our functioning properties are certified compliant with the BREEAM environmental performance standards and we are committed to extending  environmental certification of our properties. Separate sorting of waste (at sites where it has not already been implemented) is an important stage in this process. We believe that Recycles Day is a good way of drawing the attention of our tenants to the issue of waste sorting, both at the corporate level and at the level of individuals.”

Anton Kuznetsov, Deputy CEO of Ecology Sphere, said:“A culture of recycling requires more than declarations and laws. Someone has to take the lead in practice. As a top player in the Russian commercial real estate segment and by publicly committing to and promoting green technologies, O1 Properties creates a comfortable environment for its tenants and translates the issue of recycling into the sphere of action.”
